A queue management system measures and directs waiting lines. It may issue tickets, call numbers to counters and report wait times per service. Camera-based versions estimate queue length and dwell time from overhead video, then feed displays and staffing decisions.
Queues are an operations problem that security cameras are often already positioned to observe. Counting a line does not require identifying anyone in it.
Measuring the wait
An overhead camera sees how many people stand in a zone and how long each stays. From that, software estimates the current wait and how many counters are needed to clear it.
Designing the counting zone
Counting works when the queue has a defined area and people cannot be hidden by shelving or pillars. Mark the zone, test at peak hours and recalibrate whenever the layout or counter count changes.
