Regulation

Section 889 restricts federal agencies and federal contractors from buying or using covered Hikvision and Dahua equipment. The FCC Covered List separately restricts new equipment authorizations and marketing. Neither rule automatically makes an existing privately owned system illegal, but the requirements depend on the contract, the site and the buyer.

Hikvision and Dahua Alternatives: A Practical Migration Guide

The right replacement depends on why the system is being changed: a federal contract, a critical-infrastructure requirement, an insurance condition or a private refresh. Start with the camera roles and the recorder/VMS, verify the alternative manufacturer documents, then replace in phases so coverage and access control keep working.

How we publish updates

We write when a rule, product or support position actually changes — not on a fixed content calendar. Each update names its sources, carries a publication date and a last-reviewed date, and is revised when the underlying facts change.

Regulatory articles are general information, not legal advice. For a federal contract or a critical-infrastructure site, verify the requirement with the procurement or compliance contact.
