Internet of Things security is about the connected devices on a network that are not computers: cameras, locks, sensors, thermostats and displays. Many ship with default passwords, rarely receive firmware updates and expose cloud services. Segmenting them and restricting their traffic limits what a compromised device can reach.
A camera is a small computer on the network with a login, and it is often the weakest one. Treating these devices as untrusted guests is the practical starting point.
The usual weaknesses
Unchanged default credentials, outdated firmware, unnecessary services and peer-to-peer cloud tunnels are the recurring problems. Any one of them can expose the device from the internet.
Controls that actually help
Put devices on their own VLAN, block outbound traffic they do not need, disable unused discovery, keep an inventory, and replace hardware that no longer receives fixes.
