Penetration testing is an authorized attempt to break into systems the way an attacker would. On a security estate it covers recorders, camera web interfaces, remote access and the network they sit on. Findings are reported with severity and remediation, not just a pass or fail.
A scan lists weaknesses. A penetration test proves which ones are exploitable, and what an attacker could reach afterward.
Testing beyond the camera
The weakest point is rarely the camera itself. Default passwords, exposed recorder ports, shared accounts and flat networks that let a compromised device reach a server are the usual routes in.
Scope and authorization
Written authorization, an agreed window and a defined target list protect everyone involved. Test during planned hours, and expect a report you can act on rather than a score.
