A PTZ camera can pan, tilt and zoom under remote control. It is useful when an operator needs to follow activity or inspect detail across a large area. It is not a substitute for continuous fixed coverage, because it can only look at one place at a time.
PTZ stands for pan, tilt and zoom. The camera’s value is in movement and detail, not in covering every point at once. Presets and patrols decide whether the camera is actually used.
Movement and zoom
Pan rotates horizontally, tilt moves vertically, and optical zoom magnifies with the lens. Digital zoom crops the image and does not add detail.
When a PTZ earns its place
Large yards, parking areas, gates and long perimeters are the usual fits. Doorways, tills and corridors usually need a fixed view that never moves.
Planning the presets
A PTZ with no presets is an expensive fixed camera. We agree the points of interest with the operator and test each preset after installation.
