Remote monitoring is off-site oversight of a security system, where someone or something watches alerts and video and decides how to respond. It differs from remote viewing, which only lets an authorized user look in. Monitoring can sit with staff, a central station or an analytics service.
Viewing is a capability. Monitoring is a commitment to watch, and it only works when the alert path is tested.
Verifying an alarm
A camera lets a responder check what triggered a sensor before anyone is dispatched. Video verification reduces wasted call-outs when a sensor is set off by a door moving in wind or a pet.
What the site must provide
Monitoring depends on a reliable connection, power protection and clear camera views of the risk areas. Agree the escalation list, the response expectations and who can be contacted at night before commissioning.
