Security barriers are physical elements that delay, channel or block movement toward an asset. They include fences, bollards, gates, turnstiles and reinforced doors, and they are chosen for the delay they add rather than for a promise of stopping a determined attacker outright.
A barrier buys time for detection and response. Without either, it only moves the point of entry; with them, a quick break-in becomes sustained work that someone can interrupt.
Delay, channel and detect
A fence delays, a gate channels traffic past a camera, and a bollard stops a vehicle. Each works best beside a sensor that reports when it is breached rather than standing alone.
Maintenance and code
Barriers have to stay effective: a rusted gate, a propped door or a hedge grown through a fence undoes the design. Egress and fire access still have to work after the barrier is installed.
