Wi-Fi 6

Wi-Fi 6 is the 802.11ax wireless standard, designed to serve many devices efficiently in one space rather than to raise peak speed alone. It improves scheduling, divides channels into smaller resource units and handles dense deployments better than earlier standards.

Security devices in a crowded building rarely need more peak throughput. They need a share of airtime available when they transmit, and Wi-Fi 6 was designed around that problem.

Efficiency rather than peak rate

Scheduling lets several devices transmit at once within one channel. Target wake time lets battery devices sleep longer, which matters for sensors far more than for cameras. A camera streaming continuously never sleeps, so airtime still has to be budgeted.

What it does not fix

Interference, too few access points and overlapping channels remain. Cameras on Wi-Fi still consume airtime continuously, and a wired connection remains the better default wherever cable reaches.
