Cloud storage keeps recorded video on servers reached over the internet instead of on a local recorder. It survives theft or damage at the site and allows access from anywhere, but it depends on upload bandwidth, ongoing service terms and a retention policy, and it is usually paired with local recording rather than replacing it.
Cloud recording changes where the evidence lives, and that changes what a site has to plan for. Bandwidth, retention and the service agreement become part of the security design.
What cloud recording changes
A recorder in the building is only as safe as the room it sits in. Cloud storage puts a copy outside the site, where a break-in or a fire cannot reach it. The trade is dependence on an internet path and on a provider’s continued service, which belongs in the risk assessment.
Bandwidth and retention
Upload capacity is usually the constraint, because most connections are asymmetric. Plan how many streams go to the cloud, whether they are continuous or event-driven, and how long they are kept. Event-only uploads stretch a limited link much further than continuous recording.
