An on-premise security solution keeps its servers, storage and management software in the building rather than in a vendor’s cloud. The site owns the hardware, the data and the maintenance. It suits organizations with network or policy constraints, and it demands power, cooling and backups.
On-premise is a location decision with operational consequences. The system is only as reliable as the room it lives in.
What you take on
You take on patching, drive replacement, backups and physical security for the server. A locked, ventilated rack on a UPS is the minimum, and remote support needs a secure path in.
Where cloud wins
A hosted platform spreads multi-site administration and removes on-site hardware from the maintenance list. Sites that cannot accept an outside connection, or must keep footage inside their walls, still choose on-premise.
